Wildlife Encounters at the Magical Yurt in the Woods & Tips for Observation

Nestled in the serene forests of Haydenville, Massachusetts, the Magical Yurt in the Woods offers guests an immersive experience in nature. The surrounding area, rich in biodiversity, provides opportunities to observe a variety of wildlife in their natural habitats. Here’s some of my tips for catching a glimpse of our animal neighbours, while respecting that we share this land.

  • Take an early morning or a stroll at dusk: These are prime times for wildlife activity. Consider taking quiet walks during these periods.

  • Stay quiet and still: Sudden movements or loud noises can startle animals. Patience often brings rewards of memorable sightings.

  • Use binoculars: They allow for close-up views without disturbing the animals while also keeping yourself safe from harm.

  • Respect boundaries: Always observe wildlife from a distance and avoid feeding or attempting to touch any of the wildlife that we share this land with!

Here's a glimpse of the cuties and creatures you might encounter during your stay, all of which are vital components to our lucious, watershed land.

Red-Tailed Hawks and Great Horned Owls
Majestic birds of prey, they can be seen soaring above or heard calling during twilight hours.

Bobolinks and Cliff Swallows
Frequenting grasslands and open areas, these birds add melodic tunes to the forest's soundscape.

Painted Turtles and Box Turtles
Basking on logs or slowly making their way through underbrush, these reptiles are a delightful sight for patient observers.
